Reminds me of when I was in lower Latvia, hog wrestling. Pay was very variable and mostly depended on who won the contest.
But after 57 years, there was some kind of retirement package.
That’s what I like about the Old Countries, things were more simple and secure there, mostly because of superstition, fear and taboos against anything fun. You may consider me a sentimental old fluff, but things had a more community feeling in a slightly barbaric way. So everyone had a job, some people did back breaking work 16 hours a day, the other people spied on those people and reported them to the state or the church as pertains their particular offense. And the justice system? Always on the side of the prosecution, so things just flowed through swiftly. Sundays were execution days and helped the general populace to relieve stress by actively taking part in a stoning.
What fun those days were, have to sign off now, can’t hold back the tears……
